Our first newsletter of 2024 kicks off with an interview from one of our fave Bravo Podcasters: Ben Mandelker from Watch What Crappens (Ronnie Karam will spill all separately)! What is your favorite Bravo series of all time?
Ben Mandelker: My favorite Bravo series of all time is The Real Housewives of New York, pre-reboot. I mean, the reboot is fine (I don't love it tbh), but nothing can ever match the alchemy that was the first thirteen seasons of RHONY. Season 3, with Scary Island and the famed Bethenny-Jill feud is one of the best seasons of reality television as a genre, but ultimately, it's trumped by season 8 of RHONY. This is the "It's About Tom" season, which features quite possibly the single best episode to ever air on Bravo: "December: Berkshires County."
Although, to be honest, if we're talking one-off episodes, I do also rank Jen Shah's arrest on RHOSLC pretty epic.
Has any housewife or bravolebrity ever sent you an angry DM?
Honestly, none that I can remember! Sometimes we may get a "You guys are so funny but actually that wasn't totally accurate." Actually, someone from Southern Charm Savannah got mad at how we portrayed her, but we didn't lose too much sleep over that.
If you could hand pick a cast for RHUGT who would you pick for it?
Let's do Karen Huger, Sutton Stracke, Meredith Marks, Bethenny Frankel, Adriana de Moura, Jennnifer Ayden, and Heather Dubrow.
Who is your favorite Bravo personality to impersonate?
I will never tire of Ramona Singer or Shannon Beador. I do both of their voices even when I'm just puttering around the kitchen. I don't need to be podcasting!
Is there a bravolebrity that you didn’t love initially, but changed your mind after meeting them in person?
This is hard because honestly every Bravoleb I've met in person - no matter how awful they've been on TV - has been super cool and fun. I actually thought Craig from Southern Charm was absolutely lovely in person. He still acts like a fool on TV, but he was really sweet IRL.
Who is your favorite housewife of all time?
Countess Luann. She started off as an aristocrat who sold a literal book about manners, only to bang a pirate in the Caribbean, fall in a bush, get married and divorced in one year, go to jail, and then become a cabaret star vixen. THAT is what you call reinvention.
We are huge Love Island UK fans! So we have to ask, who is your favorite couple of all time?
Hard to say! My recent faves have been Paige and Finn, Dami and Indiyah, and of COURSE Whitney and Lochan. Can't wait for Ekin Su on The Traitors season 2, and you didn't ask, but Ovie is my all time #1. We need to see more of him.
Any project you want to plug / promote or something you want to shout out?
Ronnie and I have recently launched an IG Live show called "Crappy Hour" on our IG (@watchwhatcrappens). It's every other Monday at 8:30pm ET, and we just talk about Bravo for an hour with each other and the viewers.
